Outstanding Alumni Volunteer Award
In 1995, the College of Engineering began a yearly tradition of recognizing an alumnus who has provided outstanding volunteer assistance to the College as the Outstanding Alumni Volunteer. L. Lamar Faulkner has been named as the 2008 Outstanding Alumni Volunteer award recipient.
Faulkner can best be described as selfless, generous, and tireless in devoting his time and energy to his alma mater. As an alumnus and as a practicing engineer, Faulkner has brought much honor to this College.
Faulkner has been one of the College’s most adamant recruiters for prospective students and has gone more than above and beyond in helping students find employment. Faulkner’s three sons are his proudest UA recruiting efforts, including Al, a chemical engineering alumnus, and Paul and Mark, both received degrees in business.
From serving as a past chair of the Capstone Engineering Society to his work on the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering advisory board, Faulkner has kept the Capstone close to his heart by giving so much of his valuable time and efforts.
Faulkner received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1964. He began his career with Monsanto Co. as a process and production supervisor. He spent the next 20 years with Monsanto, and then through acquisition joined Fiberweb North America Inc. (formerly James River Corp.) in 1985 as a technical manager. Fiberweb became CEREX Advanced Fabrics Inc., and Faulkner recently retired as the safety, health and environment manager.
In 1990, he was inducted as a Chemical Engineering Outstanding Fellow and as a Distinguished Engineering Fellow by the University of Alabama College of Engineering in 1995. In 1986, Faulkner was named the University of Alabama National Alumni Association Out-of-State Chapter President of the Year.
